NYAB - Yellowknife Recruitment

What is the National Youth Advisory Board (NYAB)?

The NYAB is a group of Canada-based youth who work together to contribute to and inform Action Canada's youth-focused projects and campaigns.

Role Description

The NYAB guides the development of campaigns to increase awareness and improve attitudes around Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infection (STBBI) testing.

NYAB members also participate in other Action Canada initiatives, including conference presentations, webinars, resource creation (like our Youth Advocacy resources), and even submissions to the Government of Canada and the UN.

Commitment

The term for this NYAB runs from 2022-2027. We are looking for members to fill some vacant seats for the remainder of this project.

Members will be expected to attend up to 8 virtual meetings per year, including an in-person retreat in Ottawa in September 2025, and potentially a virtual retreat in 2026, paid for and hosted by Action Canada.

· Interviews will be held August 13-15.

· Ideally, candidates will be available for:

o Virtual meeting on August 17 in the afternoon

     o In-person retreat September 22-25

Honoraria

NYAB members will receive $75 for each meeting they attend, $200 for each in-person retreat, and $150 for each virtual retreat.

How to Apply

The deadline to apply is Sunday July 27, 2024.

Visit our form to apply today. There you’ll find our online application form, which allows applicants to submit responses in writing, or link to a video, podcast, zine, or other creative submission. We recognize that not everyone communicates best just by writing, and that’s okay!

You will be contacted following the deadline if you are selected to go on to the interview stage.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to all youth in Yellowknife between the ages of 16-24.

Following a Peer Education model, we are especially encouraging applications from those who have experience with STBBIs and sexual and reproductive health, with a prioritization on applicants from young women in Yellowknife.

Action Canada strives to recruit and maintain a diverse membership on the NYAB, representing the various communities the program aims to serve. For this role, applications are encouraged from Indigenous youth, Black youth, youth of colour, youth of all genders and sexualities, youth with disabilities, and youth with experiences of (im)migration. Please be sure to self-identify in your application if you feel this is relevant to you.

Action Canada’s NYAB currently funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (PHAC) Community Action Fund.
