Planned Parenthood Ottawa (“PPO”) is searching for a passionate and dynamic leader to fill the position of Executive Director (“ED”). Reporting directly to the Board of Directors (“the Board”), the ED is responsible for overseeing PPO’s programming and day-to-day operations, as well as championing the organization’s missions and values in partnership with its elected and appointed leadership.
PPO is a registered, charitable, not-for-profit organization that provides a range of services and information for people in the Ottawa area to make healthy and informed decisions about their health, bodies and relationships. Education, counselling, information and referral services are available in a safe environment, free of judgement and a full understanding of options and choices that best suit you.
As the driving force behind PPO’s strategic vision, the Executive Director is responsible for directing and executing the activities of PPO in alignment with its strategic plan. Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director will shape and lead how the organization achieves its goals, and will measure and report on a regular basis the organization’s performance. The Board relies on the ED to identify opportunities and risks as they pertain to both the organization and its programming, and will look to the ED to recommend and take the initiative to implement strategies to address them.
The Executive Director is responsible for building, maintaining and growing relationships both inside and outside of the organization. PPO has a strong team, and it will be the responsibility of the ED to directly manage PPO’s talented staff and network of volunteers, providing them with the necessary guidance to implement PPO’s services and programming. Externally, the ED fosters relationships and partnerships with community stakeholders, donors, government officials, partners, media and the public at large.
The Executive Director provides leadership to ensure the financial health and sustainability of PPO. The ED will perform various fundraising duties, including: identifying and pursuing restricted and unrestricted funding sources (monthly donors, government grants, major gifts, etc.); supporting volunteer fundraising committee; streamlining fundraising activities to be implemented by organization’s staff; and regular, ongoing communication with donors through in-person meetings, written communication and formal presentations.
Planned Parenthood Ottawa is committed to diversifying its staff to ensure that a variety of life experiences are represented, and that the organization is reflective of the diverse communities in the Ottawa area. This includes but is not limited to: LGBTQ+ communities; racialized communities; Indigenous/First Nations communities; people living with invisible and visible disabilities, and/or individuals experiencing multiple intersecting marginalizations.
