Institutional Grants Coordinator

Action Canada’s Global Policy and Advocacy program is anchored by our role as the coordinating partner of the Sexual Rights Initiative (SRI). The SRI is a Global North-Global South feminist coalition of five organizations from all regions of the world with an office in Geneva, Switzerland, that work together within the UN Human Rights system to advance human rights norms and standards related to gender and sexuality. 

Action Canada is hiring an Institutional Grants Coordinator to support our growing portfolio of governmental and foundation grants from Canadian and international sources that support our Global Policy & Advocacy Programme. This is a new position in our team and an exciting opportunity for an experienced grant coordinator with a passion for sexual and reproductive rights. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated their commitment to and the advancement of, sexual and reproductive rights for all, have familiarity with reporting to IATI platform and related aid transparency initiatives, and experience reporting and developing proposals for global sexual and reproductive rights advocacy from a feminist perspective.

Position Overview:

The Institutional Grants Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating with Action Canada’s Global Policy and Advocacy team including the SRI office in Geneva, as well as Communications and Finance teams to prepare detailed grant reports for Canadian and international institutional donors;
  • Supporting the integration of Action Canada’s Global Policy and Advocacy program within the organization’s strategic and operational development plans;
  • Developing and coordinating funding proposals for grant renewals and prospective institutional donors to support Action Canada’s Global Policy and Advocacy program in collaboration with Action Canada team members and external partners;
  • Researching, analyzing, and monitoring the Canadian and global funding landscape to advise Action Canada’s management team of global advocacy grant opportunities and trends;
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a robust monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning framework for Action Canada’s Global Policy and Advocacy Program;
  • Managing and updating Action Canada’s profile on the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) platform and other related online grant reporting platforms;
  • Maintaining and updating the organizational grant calendar to ensure all team members are prepared for reporting and proposal deadlines;
  • Actively contributing to the achievement of Action Canada’s organizational and programmatic goals through collaborative and anti-oppressive teamwork and commitment to the realization of sexual and reproductive rights for all.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years experience coordinating large and medium size grants from institutional donors including governments, foundations, and consortia;
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with civil society organizations and/or grant-making organizations;
  • A post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent experience, advanced degree would be considered an asset;
  • Proven track record of delivering timely, high quality, accurate, and impactful institutional grant reports and proposals;
  • Experience working with external partners in diverse contexts;
  • Experience developing and working within feminist monitoring and evaluation frameworks for global advocacy;
  • Fluent in English, writing and speaking. French bilingualism considered an asset. Additional languages considered an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Commitment to the advancement of sexual and reproductive rights for all;
  • Sophisticated understanding of reporting on and developing proposals for global sexual and reproductive rights advocacy from a feminist perspective;
  • Knowledge of institutional funding landscape and processes in Canada and globally for the advancement of sexual and reproductive rights;
  • Familiarity with reporting to IATI platform and related aid transparency initiatives;
  • Ability to synthesize and analyze programmatic data to demonstrate impact;
  • Enjoy working collaboratively across teams and with external partners in diverse contexts;
  • Demonstrate initiative, diligence, and conscientiousness in all aspects of work;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Comfortable using digital tools to manage work and collaborate with team members (e.g. Asana, BlueJeans, CiviCRM, Dropbox etc.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practices.
  • Flexible and adaptive, able to respond quickly and effectively to changing circumstances.
  • Commitment to and demonstrated effectiveness working as part of a diverse and participatory team;
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with team members in different locations and with different levels of responsibility;
  • Willingness to travel and work outside of normal business hours, when necessary;
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Salary range: $55,000 - 70,000
