Sexual Health Clinics Attacked by Anti-Choice Misinformation, Undermining Canadians’ Right to Healthcare
For Immediate Release
OTTAWA, ON, November 18, 2025— A recent rise in coordinated misinformation campaigns is spreading sensationalized and misleading claims about abortion in Canada. These campaigns, driven by anti-choice groups, use deceptive videos and narratives imported from the U.S. to stoke fear, divide communities, and justify rollbacks to reproductive rights.
“At the core, this is about control — not care,” says Frederique Chabot, Executive Director of Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights. “Everyone deserves safe, timely health care. In Canada, we believe in compassion, dignity, and evidence-based medicine. Personal medical decisions belong to people, not politicians.”
Canadians believe in and have consistently defended the right to abortion as an integral part of the health care system in our country. This U.S style campaign seeks to criminalize abortion care, drumming up outrage with the goal of restricting access to a very common medical procedure.
Canadians agree that medical decisions should be made by people and their doctors not by politicians using misinformation. In Canada, doctors provide compassionate, evidence-based abortion care at all stages of pregnancy when it is medically needed including for those who faced major barriers to early care. The question is: do we help people, or punish them?
“Abortion is health care, and it concerns only the person receiving it.” says Dr. Diane Francoeur, CEO of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. “People who need it must have access to the necessary services, available in every region of Canada. No one has the right to decide for others whether certain care or services are appropriate.”
These types of deliberate attacks on abortion care hit hardest those already facing the greatest barriers. We must strengthen access to health care, not target doctors who care for patients in their hardest moments. Action Canada is advocating for a future where everyone has access to healthcare, where private medical circumstances aren’t weaponized, and where truth can guide public health conversations.
