2016 Bentley Award Winners!

 

Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights is excited to announce the winners of the 2016 Helen and Fred Bentley Awards of Excellence: Planned Parenthood Regina (first place) and Sexual Health Options, Resources & Education – SHORE Centre (second place)!

We received a strong number of applications but Planned Parenthood Regina’s “Manachiwasin” (respect self) program and SHORE Centre’s “Great Sexpectations” stood out for their innovation and leadership.

Planned Parenthood Regina “Manachiwasin” program has worked to increase both Indigenous leadership within Planned Parenthood Regina and reach to Indigenous populations within Regina and the surrounding area. The program includes culturally appropriate materials and a Circle of Courage program with Coming of Age Ceremony. SHORE Centre’s “Great Sexpectations” is an interactive play performed by youth volunteers at youth shelters, homes for teen parents, LGBTQ+ youth groups and in high schools. Since its creation in 2007, the play has reached 3,000 youth and engaged 150 youth volunteers. In 2015, 80% of audience members reported increased knowledge and skills related to the topics covered in the play and 85% rated the performance as Awesome! Click here to read the Press Release »
