Statement on Action Canada’s Interim Leadership

Last week, our Executive Director, Farrah Khan, shared publicly that she has been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cervical cancer.

At Action Canada, we have a deep commitment to protecting and advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights for all people. We are steadfast in continuing this important work while giving Farrah the space to prioritize her health.

This news comes in the midst of the one-year anniversary of the reversal of Roe v Wade, a decision which opened the global flood gates to a growing amount of anti-gender equality and anti-choice rhetoric. In Canada, it’s manifesting in book bans, rollbacks on protections for trans and queer youth, attacks on drag story times, and attempts to undermine sexual health education.

In a world with rising hostility against abortion rights and increasing attacks on 2SLGBTQ+ communities, Action Canada's work to safeguard and make progress on human rights is more needed than ever.

As an organization, we are confident in the strength of our leadership team and staff. Together, we are prepared to shoulder the work ahead and are strong because of partners and supporters like you.

To effectively move forward in the coming months, the Board of Directors has appointed Frederique Chabot as Acting Executive Director of Action Canada. As a founding staff member of Action Canada, Director of Health Promotion, and former Interim Executive Director, Frederique has already been instrumental in shaping the organization’s vision, culture, and strategy.

Under Frederique’s leadership and with the support of the Board of Directors, the senior management team, staff, and partners like you, we know we can continue to build an organization that can respond to external uncertainty and push our mission forward.
