Women across the country played a decisive role in shaping the outcome of this election. Their voices and votes were instrumental in defending the values that define us and in charting a future where we have each other’s backs.
Today, we congratulate Prime Minister Mark Carney and the newly elected Members of Parliament on their victory. This election sent a clear message: Canadians rejected the politics of fear and division that have taken hold south of the border — and begun to creep into Canada — choosing instead to protect what makes this country worth calling home: a nation rooted in care, equality, and justice.
Now, the real work begins. Canadians expect leadership that invests in people and in the public services that build a stronger, fairer future.
We are ready to work with the new government to meet the expectations Canadians have set. For generations, feminist and women’s rights organizations have fought for — and helped build — the foundations of the Canada we know and love: accessible childcare, robust health care, safe communities, and a commitment to fairness and justice. Together, we can protect these hard-won gains and continue pushing forward for everyone.
We call on Prime Minister Carney to make gender equality and women’s rights a core priority for this new government. What we are fighting for are not just policies — they are fundamental to who we are as a country.
Appointing a dedicated Minister for Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) will send a clear message that Canada remains a global leader in advancing equality, fairness, and justice at a time of rising authoritarianism and threats to democracy.
We also urge the new government to recognize that strong civil society organizations are the backbone of any healthy democracy. Women’s rights organizations and civil society groups across Canada play a critical role in protecting rights, expanding opportunity, and ensuring no one is left behind.
We look forward to working with the next cabinet and all elected and re-elected Conservative, Bloc Quebecois, NDP and Green MPs.
Let’s get to work.
