The Action Canada team is pleased to share that our Board of Directors has appointed Frederique Chabot as our new Executive Director, alongside Lesley Hoyles as our Deputy Executive Director. After acting in these roles for two years, their ongoing leadership, strategic expertise, and genuine compassion will continue to strengthen our work to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights.
The last two years have been some of the most transformative in Action Canada’s history. While we have been holding the line to defend sexual and reproductive health in an increasingly complex social and political landscape, we have also been doing deep internal work to make sure our systems, structures, and strategies can carry us into the future.
We remain focused on our core priorities:
- Expanding access to abortion and sexual and reproductive health care within a strong public system;
- Universal access to contraception;
- Access to accurate sexual and reproductive health information, including comprehensive sexuality education;
- Advocacy for sexual and reproductive rights and justice, including human rights monitoring, defense, and implementation.
As a team, we have invested time and care into building systems and relationships that can help us navigate our current moment with purpose and confidence. We’ve expanded our capacities and honed our programs in:
- Strategic communications and campaign capacity.
- Evidence-based, values-driven narrative change work and public engagement.
- Increased resources and time invested in partnerships and coalitions.
- A redesigned approach to fundraising to sustain our frontline and advocacy work.
- Refreshed focus on government relations, advocacy strategies, and health promotion.
At the heart of it all, our work is grounded in the defense and advancement of human rights and social justice. We’re not chasing symptoms, we’re addressing systems.
We’ve spent the past two years building the foundation. Now we get to build from a strong base, arms linked with partners and allies. This is the time to align, refocus, and remember what we’re building together:
A world where every person is free to make decisions about their body, sexuality, gender, and health and can access everything they need to act on those decisions, free from discrimination, oppression, coercion, and violence.
